BADSEY WEDDING
Miss S Butler – Sergt A G Ingram, RAF
The wedding took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday of Miss Sheila Butler, younger daughter of Mr & Mrs Arthur Butler, Chalcroft, Badsey, and Sergt Albert George Ingram, RAF, son of Mr & Mrs G Ingram, Salisbury, Wiltshire.
The bride, who has been a member of the Women’s Land Army for the past 18 months, was formerly a teacher at Miss Morris’ Preparatory School, Evesham. The bridegroom has, for some time past, been a member of the ground staff of the RAF.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white figured satin with train and a veil adorned with orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of pale pink chrysanthemums and was attended by a matron of honour. Mrs K Ellison, sister of the bride, who was dressed in an ankle length cloak of blue figured silk with a veil to match and a headdress of silver leaves. She carried a bouquet of primrose and white chrysanthemums. The one bridesmaid, Miss Avis Jones (friend of the bride) was dressed in pink figured silk with a silver headdress and carried a posy of violets.
The ceremony was fully choral, the hymns including “The voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us”. It was conducted by Canon W C Allsebrook, Vicar of Badsey, and the organist was Mrs G Marshall.
Upon leaving the church, the bride and bridegroom were presented with a silver horseshoe by the bride’s niece, Susan Butler, and with a silver shoe by Mrs P Street, a friend of the bride. The best man was Cpl K Ellison, RAF, brother-in-law of the bride.
The reception was held at the Old Manor, Badsey, and about 40 guests attended. After the reception the happy couple left for an unknown destination for their honeymoon.
