BADSEY BRIDE
Miss Muriel Bird married at St James

A charming wedding took place at St James’ Parish Church, Badsey, on Monday between Miss Muriel Mary Bird, second daughter of Mr & Mrs J Bird of Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Mr Albert Frederick Arthur Patrick Morcombe, son of Mr & Mrs H Morcombe of 17 Calthorpe Street, Grays Inn Road, London WC1.

The wedding service, which was choral and included the hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” and “O Perfect Love” was conducted by the Rev C M Stickings, Vicar of Bretforton.  The organist was Mrs G Marshall.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white lace, silk veil and headdress of orange blossom and carried a bouquet of red carnations and maidenhair fern.

The four bridesmaids were Miss Joan Bird (sister of the bride) who wore a gown of pink net over taffeta; Miss Florence Morcombe (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Sylvia Bird (sister of the bride) who were attired in gown of turquoise blue net over taffeta and pale mauve respectively.  The fourth bridesmaid was Miss Jean Bird (friend of the bride) who was dressed in a robe of pale pink taffeta.  All the bridesmaids wore headdresses and veils to match.  The best man was Mr Peter Turner of Rotherham, Yorkshire.

The reception followed at the Assembly Room, Royal Oak Inn, Badsey, and about 70 guests attended.  Later the happy couple left for a honeymoon which is to be spent in London, the bride travelling in a sky blue suit with black accessories.

Both the bride and bridegroom are well known in Badsey and district, the bride formerly being employed on optical work at J R Flemings Ltd of Blackminster, whilst the bridegroom is a coal miner, having been conscripted under the Bevin scheme.
