WEDDING AT BADSEY
US Bridegroom for Miss Joan Hall
A pretty wedding took place at St James’ Parish Church, Badsey, on Thursday last between Miss Joan Mary Hall, daughter of Mr & Mrs W C Hall of Oakleigh House, Badsey, and RFC Tommie Earl Childers, US Army, son of Mr & Mrs Bob Childers of Mississippi, USA. The bride is well known in the district, as is her husband, who has a wide circle of friends in the village, to whom he is known as “Red”. The wedding service, which was fully choral, was conducted by the Vicar of Evesham, the Rev Canon T Charles Jones.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a wedding gown of figured satin with veil and accessories to match and she carried a bouquet of red roses and trailing fern. There were three bridesmaids, Miss Elsie Gould (friend of the bride) who wore a gown of turquoise taffeta embossed with silver with accessories to match; Pauline Sorrell (cousin of the bride) who wore a gown of violet taffeta with accessories to match; and Marion Jelfs who wore an ankle length gown of turquoise taffeta and a shepherdess bonnet trimmed to match. All the bridesmaids carried bouquets of sweet Williams and sweet peas, together with trailing fern with feather headdresses.
The groom presented the bridesmaids with silver bangles after the ceremony and as the happy couple left the church, the church bells rang out in a merry peal. The organist was Mrs G Marshall.
The reception which followed was held in the Old Schools, Badsey, and about 50 guests attended. After tea, dancing followed to music supplied by & A amplifiers. Owing to foreign service, the bride’s four brothers were unable to attend the ceremony, the bride’s sister being absent owing to illness. The honeymoon is being spent at London and Southampton.
