EVESHAM MAN’S BADSEY BRIDE – Miss E C Sheward & Mr D W H Hughes
Married at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, were Miss Emmeline Clara Sheward, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs O S Sheward of 1 Silk Mills, Badsey, and Mr Dennis William Henry Hughes, youngest son of Mr & Mrs J J Hughes of 104 Kings Road, Evesham. The Vicar, Rev W B Chapman, officiated, and Mrs G W Marshall played the organ.
The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a semi-crinoline dress of taffeta and net. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations and trailing fern, which she later placed on the grave of her grandmother.
Chief bridesmaid was her sister, Miss Maureen Sheward, who was attired in green figured taffeta, green headdress and gloves, and white shoes, and carried a bouquet of mauve tulips and yellow freesias. The two younger bridesmaids, Miss Valerie Sheward (the bride’s sister) and Miss Evelyn Miller (friend) wore dresses of lemon figured taffeta with headdresses to tone, and carried posies of mixed anemones and mauve freesias. Each bridesmaid was presented with a necklace by the bride and bridegroom. Master Michael Sheward, the bride’s brother, acted as page boy and wore green velvet trousers and a white blouse, and was presented with a prayer book by the bride and bridegroom. Mr Eric Hughes, bother of the bridegroom, was best man.
As she left the church, the bride was presented with seven silver horseshoes and a wooden spoon.
The reception was held at the Wheatsheaf Inn Assembly Room and about 70 guests attended.
Both the bride and bridegroom have been employed at the Bredon Package Co Ltd, Evesham, since leaving school. They were the recipients of numerous presents from relatives and friends. On Monday they left for their honeymoon which is being spent in London, the bride travelling in a charcoal grey coat with cherry accessories. Mr & Mrs Hughes will make their temporary future home at 104 Kings Road, Evesham.
