BADSEY BRIDE, CROPTHORNE GROOM – Miss A J Welch & Mr P Taylor
St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday of Miss Audrey Jean Welch, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs J M Welch of 64 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, and Mr Philip Taylor, youngest son of Mr & Mrs H Taylor, “Bredoside”, Cropthorne.
The bride was educated at Blackminster Secondary Modern School and is now on the staff of Messrs Huggans, Evesham, and the groom is employed by Mr R White of Cropthorne. The groom is a popular member of The Royal Oak (Badsey) quoits team.
Given away by her father, the bride was charmingly attired in a full length coat of lace tulle with a trailing veil held in place by a coronet of pearls and sequins. She carried a bouquet of red carnations with trailing fern.
In attendance were two bridesmaids and a page boy. The bridesmaids, Miss Heather Welch (sister of bride) and Miss Shirley Jelfs (friend), were attired in dresses of pale lemon with overnet of sequins. Their headdresses were coronets of flowers and leaves. Their bouquets consisted of tulips, carnations, lily of the valley and trailing fern. The page boy, the bride’s youngest brother, Master David Welch, wore red velvet trousers with a white blouse and red bow tie. Best man was Mr Derrick Hide of Cropthorne.
The service, which was choral, was conducted by the Vicar of Badsey, Rev W B Chapman. Mrs G Marshall was the organist. A reception followed at the Royal Oak Assembly Room, Badsey, and 90 guests were present. The groom’s present to the bride was her travelling attire, a grey costume with pink accessories. The bride presented the groom with a signet ring. The groom gave the bridesmaids double rows of pearls.
The church bell ringers rang a special wedding pea as the couple left to spend their honeymoon at Brighton.
The couple received many useful presents. Their three-tier cake was a present from the groom’s cousin. They were presented with lucky horseshoes by David Welch, Susan Grove, Barbara Wilkes and Diane Wilks.
