St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday when Miss Winifred May Jelfs, third daughter of Mr & Mrs W Jelfs of Sherwood Farm, Aldington, was married to Mr John Herbert Cole, third son of Mrs Kate Cole and the late Mr Cole of The Alcove, Little Waltham, Chelmsford, Essex.
The service, which was choral, was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev J G Jeffries, and Mrs G Marshall was at the organ. Mr W Jelfs gave his daughter away and she was attended by Miss Cecil Jelfs and Miss Edna Jelfs, sisters of the bride.
The bride looked charming attired in a gown of white lace with veil and headdress of orange blossom and carried a bouquet of dark red roses with trailing fern. The bridesmaids were dressed in dusky pink with turquoise blue feathered headdresses and veils and carried bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums with trailing ferns.
Mr J Coates of Chipping Norton, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. Upwards of 60 guests attended the reception which was held at the bride’s home and the happy couple were the recipients of numerous presents. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold brooch with a red emerald stone and the bride’s present to the bridegroom was a cigarette case. The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were pairs of earrings. A peal of bells was rung after the ceremony by the Badsey bellringers.
