MARKET GARDENER
St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday between Miss Ivy Irene Barnard, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs A E Barnard, Brewers Lane, Badsey, and Mr Denis Cleaver, 13 Grange Road, Bretforton. The bride was formerly on the staff of Messrs Beachs, Evesham. The bridegroom, a market gardener, is well known in Badsey and Bretforton, was a member of the Home Guard, and is now a member of Bretforton Fire Service. The Vicar Of Badsey, Rev J G Jeffreys, officiated and Mr H King was organist.
The bride, given away by her father, wore a gown of white satin with embroidered veil held in place by a feathered headdress. She carried red and cream roses with trailing fern and was attended by six bridesmaids. Miss Mavis Barnard (sister) and Miss Margaret Cleaver (sister of the groom) were dressed in pink heavy crepe with flowered net headdresses to match; Miss Beryl Lebbeter (cousin) and Miss Esme Jelfs wore dresses of mauve and lemon and flowered net headdresses to match; their bouquets were of mixed sweet peas. Miss Patricia Cleaver and Miss Pauline Cleaver (nieces of the groom) favoured dresses of white silk with blue feathered headdresses and shoes to tone. Each carried posies. Mr Fred Cleaver (groom’s brother) was best man. One hundred guests attended the reception at The Royal Oak. The groom’s present to the bride was a lucky charm bracelet and the bride’s present to the groom a signet ring. The groom gave the bridesmaids earrings and handbags.
Mr & Mrs Cleaver are spending their honeymoon at Batley, Yorkshire, the bride travelling in a green dress with green coat and black accessories. As they left the church they were presented with lucky horseshoes by Thelma Richardson and Wendy Sale and during the afternoon and evening the local bellringers sounded a wedding peal.
