MISS H M HARTWELL – MR A O STANTON

St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday when Miss Helen Myra Hartwell, only daughter of Mr & Mrs Elgar Hartwell of Hollywood Villa, Badsey, was married to Mr Albert Oliver Stanton, eldest son of Mr & Mrs F Stanton of 93 Kings Road, Evesham.

The bride comes from a well known Badsey family and is extremely popular in the village.  Educated at Badsey Council School, she has for the last 6½ years been a member of the staff of the BBC at Wood Norton and Birmingham.

The bridegroom, who was educated at Bengeworth Council School, served during the last war in the Royal Artillery and saw active service in North Africa and Italy.  He is now demobbed and is employed on the staff of Messrs Espleys of Evesham.

The bride, who was given away by her father, Mr Elgar Hartwell, was charmingly attired in a gown of white brocade with embroidered veil held in place with a headdress of orange blossom and carried a bouquet of red roses with trailing maidenhair fern.  She was attended by three bridesmaids – Miss Betty Stamp (cousin of the bride) and Miss Joan Stanton (sister of the bridegroom) who wore dresses of gold moire taffeta with matching headdresses and carried bouquets of red carnations and gladiolas with maidenhair ferns.  The younger bridesmaid, Miss Ellen Churchill, was charmingly attired in a dress of green nylon with a headdress of yellow tea roses and carried a posy of roses.

The service was conducted by the Vicar Of Badsey, Rev J G Jeffreys, with Mr Henry King at the organ.  Mr Leslie Knight of Littleton (friend of the bridegroom) was best man.  Over 80 guests attended the reception which followed at The Royal Oak Assembly Rooms, Badsey.  The bridegroom’s present to the bride consisted of a diamante gold brooch and her present to him a gold signet ring and travelling case.  The bridegroom’s gifts to the two chief bridesmaids were diamante brooches and to the young bridesmaid a silver chain with pendant.
