Friday 11 March 1949 – Wedding of Vera Maud Keen at Badsey

BADSEY WEDDING

At St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, Miss Vera Maud Keen, adopted daughter of Mr & Mrs William Keen of Silk Mills Cottage, Badsey, was married to Mr Philip Wyndham Vokens [sic – should be Vokins], only son of Mr & Mrs Harry Vokens of King’s Road, Bengeworth, Evesham.  The ceremony was performed by the Vicar, Rev W B Chapman.  The bride, who was given away by Mr Keen, wore a pale blue two=piece costume with hat to match and shoes and gloves to tone and she carried a bouquet of white carnations and maidenhair fern.  She was attended by Miss Sheila Perkins, her friend, who was attired in a light brown two-piece costume with hat, shoes and gloves to tone and she carried a bouquet of pink tulips and maidenhair fern.  She was presented with a gold signet ring by the bride and bridegroom.  Mr Gordon Blake, a friend of the bridegroom, was best man.  During the wedding service, the hymn “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” was sung and suitable music, including the Wedding March, was played by the organist, Mrs G Marshall.  As the bride left the church she received silver horseshoes from two of her nephews, Master Graham Hall and Master John Hall.

The bride is a native of the village and for some time has been employed by Messrs Willmotts Ltd of Evesham.  The bridegroom is a native of Evesham and in the employ of Messrs Richard White and Sons.  Later in the day, Mrs & Mrs Vokins left for their honeymoon which is being spent at Stratford-on-Avon.  They will make their future home at School Road, Badsey.  A reception was held at Mr & Mrs Keen’s home where about 40 guests were entertained.  The gifts included a cheque from Mr Richard White and a clock from the staff of Messrs Richard White & Sons.
