BADSEY BRIDE – CAMPDEN GROOM

Local interest on Saturday was centred on the wedding at St James’ Church, Badsey, of Miss Mavis Hartwell, only daughter of Mr & Mrs G Hartwell of 18 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, and Mr George Tucker, second son of Mr & Mrs Tucker of Campden Post Office, Chipping Campden.

The bride, who is a native of Badsey, was educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Evesham, and for the past 5½ years has been on the staff of Lloyds Bank from whom she received a cheque on the occasion of her wedding.  She was keenly interested in sport and formerly played hockey for Evesham 2nd XI.  She is also a past member of Evesham Rambling Club.

The bridegroom is a native of Campden and was educated at Campden Grammar School and is now employed on the staff of Littleton & Badsey Growers Ltd.  During the last war he served in the Navy, attaining the rank of Petty Officer.  Like his bride, he was a former playing member of Evesham Hockey 2nd XI team.

The bride, who was given away by her father, we attired in a dress of beige crep with matching headdress and shoes of brown suede.  She wore a spray of red roses with fern.  Her bridesmaid was the bridegroom’s sister, Miss Jean Tucker, who wore a pale blue dress and carried a posy of mixed flowers.

Mr John Tucker, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man.

The service was conducted by the Rev C M Stickings, Vicar of Bretforton, with Mrs G Marshall as organist.  At the reception held at the Wheatsheaf Inn Assembly Room, 45 guests were entertained.

Later Mr & Mrs Tucker left for a travelling honeymoon, the bride wearing a cherry-coloured coat with navy blue accessories.  Their future home is at 23 Lime Street, Evesham.
