ATOM BUILDER MARRIED AT BADSEY

Married at St James’ Church, Badsey, were Mr John Frank Pogmore Cobb of The Old Farm, Old Post Office Lane, Badsey, and Mrs Ivy Winifred Brocklebank of Home Close, Bromham, Bedfordshire.  The service was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev W B Chapman.  Mrs G W Marshall was at the organ.

The bride, who was given away by Mr Arthur R Price of Derby, was attired in a greyish blue costume with matching accessories, and she carried a spray of carnations and freesias with fern.  Mr John Cecil Worman of Coventry, the groom’s nephew, was best man.  Mixed coloured daffodils decorated the pulpit for the service.  A reception was held at The Old Farm, Badsey, over 30 guests being entertained.

The groom, who lost his first wife in January 1955, has been resident in Badsey for over 20 years.  During the early part of the Second World War he was Civil Defence Officer for the Evesham Rural District, but later entered the employment of the Ministry of Works and the AID in London, Birmingham and Worcester.  He was also employed as clerk of works at the Harwell Atomic Energy Research Station and was engaged on the building of the first atomic pile at Harwell.

Mr & Mrs Cobb received several telegrams, including one from Mr Cobb’s daughter in Germany, and numerous presents.
