BADSEY BRIDE
Miss M Collett – Mr B Vann
Married at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, were Miss Mary Collett, sixth daughter of Mr & Mrs S J Collett of 1 Belmont Terrace, Badsey, and Mr Brian Vann, only son of Mr & Mrs B Vann of 25 Peewit Road, Hampton, Evesham.
The service was conducted by the Vicar, Rev W B Chapman, and Mrs G W Marshall was at the organ for the singing of the hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father” and “The voice that breathed o’er Eden”.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an ankle-length dress of figured brocade with a tiara headdress and carried a prayer book with trailing fern and carnations. She was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Lucy Collett and Miss Christine Collett (her sisters) and Miss Jean Vann (the bridegroom’s sister). Each bridesmaid wore a dress of red taffeta and red taffeta headdress and carried a muff to match.
The bride was born at Badsey and attended Badsey Council School and Blackminster Secondary Modern School. She has been employed by Messrs Smedley & Co Ltd, Evesham. The bridegroom is at present serving in HM Forces, being a PT instructor at Norton Barracks. They were the recipients of numerous presents, including those from the staff of Messrs Smedley & Co Ltd, Evesham, from Messrs Foster & Co, Evesham, and from Messrs Collins Bros Ltd, Evesham, where the bridegroom was employed before he joined the Forces.
A reception was held at The Wheatsheaf Inn, Badsey, where numerous guests were entertained. During the afternoon and evening the ringers of St James’ Church rang changes on the church bells.
