SUN SHINES FOR OCTOBER BRIDES
Miss E Haines – Mr J Hemming

At St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, Miss Evelyn Haines, only daughter of Mr & Mrs Cecil R Haines of 40 Synehurst Avenue, Badsey, was married to Mr John Hemming, second son of Mr & Mrs F A Hemming of 55 Horsebridge Avenue, Badsey.

The choral service was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev W B Chapman, with Mrs G W Marshall at the organ for the singing of the hymn “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” and Psalm 23 (Crimond).

The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a ballerina length dress of white nylon with a pearl headdress and carried a bouquet of lemon tea roses with fern.  She was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Gillian Spink, Miss Pamela Haines and Miss Barbara Ann Jelfs, all cousins of the bride.  The Misses Spink and Haines wore ballerina length dresses of lemon net over taffeta with matching sashes and headdresses and brocade shoes.  Miss Jelfs was attired in turquoise net over taffeta with white headdress and brocade shoes.  Each bridesmaid carried a posy or mixed freesias.

Mr David Hemming, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was her travelling suit, and he presented each bridesmaid with a string of pearls.

After the service, the bride was presented with lucky horseshoes by Miss Barbara Ann Jelfs, Miss Sheila Jelfs, Grandma Haines and Mr & Mrs Hemming.

A reception was afterwards held at the home of the bride’s parents where about 39 guests were entertained.  The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of numerous present, including one from the staff of the laboratory at Messrs Richmond’s, Evesham, where the bride is employed.  Later they left for their honeymoon at Bournemouth, the bride travelling in a navy blue suit, hat and shoes with white accessories.  Upon their return they will take up residence at 55 Horsebridge Avenue, Badsey.

During the day, bell ringers of St James’ Church rang peals of bells.  Both the bride and bridegroom are natives of Badsey.
