My Dearest Wife,
I was glad to receive your post card this afternoon and to hear that Jack was behaving well. I stopped down to-day and finished the rose planting, had May down for a few minutes after lunch, she is a very good girl and seems happy enough although I think she misses Jack. Baby has been very contented and seems all right. It has come on foggy this afternoon but I think perhaps I shall walk down after dinner to see Mr Savory and enquire after his wife? Mr Hunt looked in this morning to tell me old Jelfs had died suddenly in the night. I hope you will enjoy the dance to-morrow and that it will be a success.
May gave me a kiss for you. Give my love to all at Surbiton, and with a kiss for Jack & yourself I remain
Your affectionate Husband
