My Dearest Wife,
I was unable to write to you in time, for this evening’s post as we were out shooting, but I will send this by to-morrow morning’s mail. I was glad to have your Sunday’s letter this morning, do not allow May to stick by you too much as it will be better to break the child of a tiresome habit besides giving you more quiet and leisure. Mother is certainly better to-day but she will hardly manage at the best to get down stairs for another day or two. The children are quite well and give very little trouble, they were asleep when I came home or would no doubt have sent kisses. Charlotte went up to Evesham this afternoon to meet the girl who applies from Astwood Bank and is so far satisfied as to write for her character. When do you go on to Ramsgate?
I hear Aunt Susan is likely to stay at Ramsey till about 18th ish so you must try and time your visit to Deal accordingly. I suppose Edith will be home again before your return but you must see how a visit to Guston would work in.
George will return on Thursday evening and I shall see he has a good basket of vegetables, we hope to get the clothes drying apparatus put up in the kitchen before he goes so that he may see it is correctly done. I certainly find it much more comfortable to have some one to keep house in your absence but whilst George was away and with Mother upstairs we did seem a small party, a fact which Jack quickly noted. Kiss my little girl for me and tell her Papa wishes her to play nicely with her little cousins. Tell Fanny I am very glad to hear she is so much better.
