Deal is a coastal town in Kent, 8 miles north-east of Dover and 8 miles south of Ramsgate. The coast of France is approximately 25 miles from the town and is visible on clear days.
Rosway House on Middle Deal Road, Deal, was the home of George and Marian Coleman (George was the uncle of Julius Sladden). George’s brother, John Noakes Coleman, was living at Kent House, Upper Deal Road; their wives were also related, George’s wife, Marian (née Rees), being the first cousin of John’s wife, Sarah (née Pocock).
George died at Rosway in 1903. Marian remained living there until about 1908.
