My darling Eugénie,
I scribbled you a line at the office so that you should not be altogether destitute of news to-morrow morning.
I have had rather a long day for I went first to mashing, had breakfast at the Crown and started for Gloucester @ 8.34 there were some nice roses there and I enjoyed a chat with several rosarians, they gave the judges a good lunch so I fared very well and got home here to supper soon after seven.
Yesterday I met Mr Gepp in the town and he asked me to come in to supper so you see I have been quite gay. I have declined the Wildings' invitation (enclosed) as I certainly do not care to go alone. May sends you her diary made up to date, in place of a letter.
Did Fanny go to the National Rose Shows? If so I suppose she would stay for the fireworks, I understand they eclipsed all former displays. Charlotte wrote yesterday and I found the letter at the office, they propose going to Rosway on 30th and our chicks are to follow next day, Mother had gone for the day to Aunt Susan's. The children all went to the vicarage to-day and enjoyed themselves, I do not think I shall send George to the Byrchs to-morrow, he and Fanny can escort the others most of the way and I can call for them in the evening, Jack can go after school. They all send love to dear mother and are anxious to see you again and as for your old husband he does want his own wifie back.
Good night my pet, please imagine yourself very much kissed by your loving Husband.
