My Dear Ethel
I meant to have written to you while you were at Guston but must now send the letter to Folkestone, where I presume you will arrive again tomorrow evening. I hope you have been having some of this fine weather so that you could get about at Guston, how many times did you manage to see Aunt Susan? I have just about finished the budding. There are over 600 stocks into which I think I must have inserted quite 1500 buds. Mother & Cyril watered your ferns this evening, your geranium and two little geraniums grow nicely and will soon want re-potting. Tell Auntie we shall expect you back on Friday Sept 7th and either Mother or I will write to her shortly to say by what train you must travel so as to meet Jack at Charing X. Mother has advertised in this week’s “Guardian” for a governess and the answers began to arrive this afternoon. I went up to mash this morning and there was such a thick fog when I started, quite like November. I think we have about a pound and a half of black plums instead of about 100 which the frost killed. I expect you will enjoy a day at Deal, and I suppose you will make a long day of it. Auntie Fanny does not seem to think she can manage to get to Badsey this year, she is at Westgate now with all the cousins. Jack told us when he wrote that he was going to see “Constantinople” at Olympia. Mother joins me in much love to you both and also to Grannie, Auntie and Uncle.
