My dearest Husband
I was very pleased to find your letter & May’s when I arrived from Bourg on Saturday morning & to find you were all well & this morning I will write you a few lines before lunch. It is dear little Baby’s birthday, you must give him a special kiss from me, as I cannot give him one myself. I managed my journey from Bourg very well, there was only one person in the carriage most of the time, so I hired a pillow at Abâcon & laid up on the seat & made myself as comfortable as I could & managed to sleep a bit. May is not very well & obliged to put off her journey to England for a few days, so I am going to stay till Wednesday; I rather think of taking an earlier train so as to stop at Rouen for a few hours & have a look at the Cathedral, it seems a pity to go through the place so often & never see anything of it. Yesterday I went to the English Church with Father & then lunched & dined at Joe’s; Eugéne Jouanne & his wife were also there to dinner.
In the afternoon I called to see Mrs Irvine & found her in bed & looking very ill & old. Essie & Annie were out, but I understand that the latter has not been at all well.
Today I am going to fetch Anna out from school for an hour or two, I saw her after church yesterday.
It is nearly lunch time & I want to write a few lines to May, so will close, with much love to you & all
Believe me
Your loving wife
