Grand Hotel de France Yelmini
Bourg
28th May 1895
My dearest Husband,
I hope you will have received the post-card which I scribbled off at the station yesterday before starting on my journey to Bourg. I had a very good journey down, a corridor carriage with lavatory etc, certainly for comfortable travelling in France commend me to the Lyons Company, it is infinitely superior to the Northern one. The worst part of the journey is having to wait more than an hour at Mâcon, & considering that Bourg is the next station it is rather aggravating. I have been to see my lunatic this morning & find her much as usual. This afternoon I am going to Lyons, as Joe wanted me to see Mrs Orr who lives there now. It is not very much farther down the line & will be something for me to do while waiting to go to Paris.
Father looked very fairly well on Saturday when I dined at Joe’s, Sunday I did not think him looking quite so well & his cough was a bit troublesome; of course he looks older than when I was over last. Lily Butler dined at Joe’s on Sunday, I should scarcely have known her with her hair up & long dresses; she is certainly not good looking, though her face is pleasant enough & at times I can see a likeness to her mother. Charlie is thinking of buying a house at Byfleet, so I suppose they will really leave Surbiton before very long.
I have had no news from home yet since I left, but hope to find a letter from you awaiting me in Paris. How are you all getting on? Have you had to put your foot down with Miss Poulton yet? I am very anxious to hear from Richmond how dear little Cyril is getting on, perhaps I shall get a letter from May shortly.
Now with very much love to you & all the children
Believe me
Your loving wife
