My dearest Husband,
I was very pleased to get your nice letter yesterday & the ones enclosed & will at any rate begin a letter this morning, I find it very difficult to get in my letter writing, as we are out most of the day & of course I don’t like to keep the others in for me.
We all stood the long journey down here very well, about twelve hours in the train on a hot day is a bit trying, but even Aunt did not seem over-tired, & for the last two or three hours we had the most lovely scenery to look at. Geneva is a fine city, we were there the greater part of Wednesday, & in the afternoon had a good drive round; Mont Blanc was in clouds all the morning, but we got a glimpse of it in the afternoon. The railway journey here was perfectly lovely, all along by the lake side, with the beautiful mountains on the other side.
This is a nice hotel on the borders of the lake, with a nice view. Yesterday afternoon we had a lovely trip in a steamer as far as Bouveret which is at the top of the lake, the mountains were grand & the lights & shades on them wonderful. Champéry, where Charlotte talks of going is not far from there I think, but higher up the mountains. Aunt & I are going by boat to Territel this morning & from there by mountain railway to Faux; the two others went off earlier this morning to get a good walk on the mountains.
I must stop as we have to start in a few minutes. Give a good kiss to Juliet, I am glad her cold is better, I hope the doll’s Show will go off well & not be too much for poor Ethel. You must be quite dull now without your visitors & will be glad to welcome Arthur this evening; I have thought of him working at his exam & hope he had nice papers.
Fond love to you all dear from
Your loving wife
