My dear Mother
Betty and Jack and I are useful employing ourselves letter-writing and otherwise in the dining-room after supper leaving the study free, quite like old times! I think they have both enjoyed their weekend very much and have seen a great deal of each other. George met both girls and took them to lunch yesterday afternoon and they got down here in time for tea. We had a nice evening, talked a good deal, Rosie not joining in much but seeming pleased to listen. Betty played a little and we left them for a little chat together before bedtime. Rosie doesn't seem very well; I think perhaps there have been rather too many late nights. She is glad to take things rather quietly. However, they went for a walk this afternoon in spite of the weather being rather uncertain. She will have to get off fairly early tomorrow so she and Betty and I will all have to have breakfast at 7.30 and George must reform his ways and come down too. George is going down later to Addlestone to lunch with Aunt Fanny. On Tuesday he is going to Folkestone for one night. He seems quite well again now, quite himself. You will be glad to see him again and judge for yourselves. I expect he will write in a day or two and say when he will be down again; of course if by any chance Boo should turn up before he goes back he would want to come down then to see him. He declares that if Boo got home next Saturday he and Mela must get married on Monday so that he can be there! I quite expected that they would get married if Boo came home a Captain so was not al all surprised at the news. I am very glad and looking forward to getting a day off to come down for it. I wonder if Boo has got his leave; it is possible the next news may be a cable from Marseilles. I wonder if he would come by land from there. One feels pretty certain of his getting home after his last cable. I am sorry to hear you have been rather out of sorts with indigestion and hope you will soon get rid of it. It is nice to have Betty. She is evidently putting her back into her work now and setting her mind to get through matrix if possible. I quite hope she will. Now I must write to May and also to Mela.
