My dearest Bet
Little did you guess when I told you to “’op it”, that five minutes afterwards I was going to meet my future wife in the same station (sensation in court). In fact she wasn’t that then. We plighted our troth between 10 and 11 pm tonight, partly in a taxi and partly on a secluded pavement beside Baker Street station. Thank heaven for anti-Zeppelin precautions!
Rosie is only a month and a half older than you. Think of that! She is a niece of Mr Lintott of fame known to you, and she bears his name.
What shall I say besides! There is so much that it seems impossible to say anything. Pretty you ask? Of course she is! What a question!
Shy with strangers, not bookish, fond of town amusements – in fact a bit frivolous. Often a terrible tease to me – bless her! Very direct and honest. Can be silent without being dull and doesn’t want to be for ever talking without a reason.
These are just a few odd glimpses to try and give you a rough idea of her. Kath is to meet her tomorrow. Perhaps you may see her some time before very long; but I want the home people to wait until I can take Rosie down there myself.
Well I can’t go on. I wish I could.
Love from
George
PS – I want the very nicest kind of letter from you.
