BADSEY “WREN” MARRIED
St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday between Wren Sylvia Grace Bird, youngest daughter of Mr & Mrs C J Bird, of The Stores, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Petty Officer Peter William Craig, only son of Mr & Mrs W Craig of 56 Runnymede Avenue, Gillingham, Kent.
The bride, a native of Badsey, has served in the Wrens for past 18 months being a switchboard operator at the RN Air Station at Abbotsinch, Scotland. Before joining the Service she was a popular Evesham Post Office telephonist.
The bridegroom, who has served seven years in the Royal Naval Air Service, started his career as an apprentice engineer and has now reached the rank of petty officer.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a dress of white figured satin with full-length veil and headdress of feathers and orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of red carnations with trailing fern. She was attended by one bridesmaid, Wren Monica Heath (friend), who wore a dress of green figured taffeta and headdress of gold leaves. She had a matching muff and spray of gold chrysanthemums. The page boy, Master Brian White, the bride’s cousin, was dressed in dark green corded trousers and white satin blouse.
Best man was Petty Officer T Charlton, a friend of the groom. The Vicar of Badsey (Rev W B Chapman) officiated, Mr H King being at the organ.
Fifty guests attended a reception which followed at The Royal Oak Assembly Room.
