Worcestershire Church Bells – Craftsmanship and Sound

Our December talk took place appropriately in St James’ Church.  The speaker, Chris Pickford, and his wife, joined the Badsey bell-ringers at 7.30 to welcome people into the church.  Meanwhile, attendees at the talk were able to warm themselves with tea/coffee and mince pies, having earlier listened to the annual Christmas carols outside The Wheatsheaf.  Chris, an archivist, writer and bell-ringer, born at Stratford upon Avon and educated at schools in Worcestershire, then began a fascinating talk on Worcestershire church bells.

Walk round Aldington looking at houses in the 1921 census

A small group of people met outside Aldington Manor on the morning of Saturday 18th June for a walk round Aldington.  It was good to see retired Treasurer, Tony Wood, and Avril, on the walk, having driven up from Cheltenham for the day.  Having only left Badsey in April, they were keen to keep in touch.  Whilst the weather remained dry for the whole walk, it was unfortunately not the glorious weather of the night before.

Walk round Badsey looking at houses in the 1921 census

On a glorious Friday evening, a large number of people met at The Wheatsheaf to take a stroll round the centre of Badsey looking at houses which appeared in the 1921 census.  The walk was enlivened by contributions from long-term residents of the village who had lots of fascinating information to add.  If you missed the walk, you can follow the route yourself on this self-guided trail.
