The annual Richard Phillips Memorial Lecture was held at Badsey Community Sports & Social Club on Friday 11th April 2025. Our very own Terry Sparrow, 91 years young, talked to us about “Badsey 1934-2025 – The Changing Scene”. This followed on from his talk to the Badsey Society in May 2024, in which he recalled the history of Badsey up until the heyday of market gardening in the 1920s.
The talk proved very popular, and included Will Phillips (Richard's son) who attended via Zoom from Nottingham, and members who had driven from London and Cheltenham for the talk.
Maureen Spinks, in her opening remarks, said that just as David Attenborough is considered to be a "national treasure", so Terry might be described as our "Badsey treasure".
Terry’s knowledge about his home village is encyclopaedic, and his stories and anecdotes really brought bygone days to life.
