1890-1910 – Badsey, Aldington & Wickhamford National School/Badsey Board School

Badsey School had been in existence since 1854 but, from 1890, it was mandatory to keep an Admissions Register, and special registers were published for this purpose.  The Head Teacher of the time entered 115 children into the register on 30th January 1890.  From the order in which the children were entered, it would appear that there were six classes; the Head wrote down the names of the boys in the top class followed by the girls’ names, then the second class and so on down to the youngest.  The oldest children in the school were Maggie Jones and Minnie Lyons, just 13, who left in April 1890.  The youngest class comprised 31 children, nine of whom were completely new to the school.  Three of the children - William Malin, Alfred Cull and Ellen Mustoe - were not quite four when they started.
