Dearest Juliet
I have just heard the sad news from Madge, and I want to tell you how very, very sorry I am. The worst of writing a letter is that it takes such ages to reach its destination; but my thoughts can travel faster than a letter and they are full of sympathy and longing to comfort you.
Forgive me for not having written before. You have been very busy, I know, and it was my place to keep up the correspondence. I hope to make up for it now.
I suppose it must be drawing near the time for you to go in for Matric, and I wish you every possible success.
Do write soon, if you can. I am longing to hear from you.
With very much love from
Violette
