My Dearest Wife,
I got down all right at 1.18 and found nothing had been required in my absence to necessitate my coming by an earlier train, so that was all right. Mr Ridgeway went a journey and has returned just now rather cold. I am feeling ready for my dinner soon as I did not have a heavy lunch. By and bye I must try and do a little letter writing.
To-morrow we brew so I shall be a little busy besides which the man is to come to post the ledger etc. Bamford and his friends may come but are not at all certain. Give my love to Polly and with a heap to yourself and a kiss for little Jack believe me ever
Your loving husband
Julius Sladden
