My Dear Kathleen,
I have undertaken to write to you absent ones this week and I think it is your turn this evening.
Thank you for your good wishes for my birthday also for the joint present which is quite a thing I wanted.
It was nice for you to have May for a few days, I miss her help in the garden but perhaps it was better she should accept the Croydon offer of a little temporary employment, she must manage to meet Mother at the prize giving if possible. Jack says Cyril is attentive to his Latin. I don’t think Ethel will find much time for any lessons she will try and give a little time daily to the piano. Yesterday she was busy at the sale of work for the bell fund, they took over £11. Mother started with Baby yesterday at 3.6 I hope to hear in the morning of their safe arrival.
Miss Smith seems to have sketched out a pretty good programme for you and I hope we shall be able to keep you at school for a time as you are making such good progress and if you can get a scholarship later on you will be able to materially assist yourself still further. Auntie Lottie will not be at home for about another ten days so there is no need to write until (say) after your prize giving, she is quite ready to receive you when the holidays begin, Ethel may follow a day or two later as our Flower Show is on July 27th. I will forward you your savings bank book and then you can buy a racket, I should advise you to get a good one and never to lend it, then it will last a long time if you take care of it.
I enjoyed my visit to the Lakes very much and you must read my diary of over 40 pages to get an idea of what I saw there. Next Wednesday is Evesham Regatta and Rose Show I hope to exhibit some roses they are beginning to come out now, I must send you some for the prize giving.
With much love I remain
your affectionate Father
