My dear Kathleen
I will write to you this week, Father is writing & I generally write to the one he writes to. You recognise the paper? I felt almost inclined to begin “S. Margaret’s” at the top, it seems like writing at school. I haven’t much news so please be content with scraps.
We began work on Thursday, Lily still has a cold & cough, Mrs Wood rather thinks it may be whooping cough, though only a slight attack if at all, as she has not whooped. She & Maggie came to tea today, Cyril’s birthday, but we kept Baby out of her way. Baby has had a cold in her eye, it is better now though, she is jolly as ever, the following conversation took place between her & me today “Who do you love?” “Main”, “Who else?” “Kaka”, “Who else?” “Det”.
I hope you will enjoy Thursday, tell me about it when you write. I expect Ethel will enjoy it. I should like to hear what P.O. & W.M. are like on their return, what form is the latter in?
I think Ethel did very well in exam. Who are to be the best tennis couples this year? I suppose there will be some matches later on. I should like to know what governesses take field & what days, forgive all these questions.
Jack & I have been for several rides lately, I never saw the country look so lovely as it is now. We went one day to Mickleton & back through Weston, the road from M. to W. was “a poem” in Mr Wilding’s language.
There is to be a celebration here at 5 a.m. on Ascension Day, I mean to go & I think Clara may go.
I think Cyril enjoyed his birthday, we gave him a [?] with which he was very much pleased. They all did their today’s prep: yesterday, I think it would have gone quite against Cyril’s conscience to have done prep today, he would have liked a holiday, but as we are to have one on Ascension Day it was quite out of the question.
Ethel will like it if you can go to Richmond for Whitsuntide. I hope she will practise hard at tennis.
Mother has found a washer woman! Mrs Seabight of Wickhamford, she looks very respectable, & I hope she will be a success. We shall see next week.
How do you like your bedroom? I suppose Joyce & Kitty have a room together.
I am in the middle of a letter to Emily which I began on Sunday. I must finish it now so good bye.
I hope the term has begun well for both of you & that it will be a nice one.
With much love to you both from your loving sister
May E Sladden
