My dear Kathleen

Thank you very much for your letter, I will scribble a line in answer.  Father & Mother wrote theirs last night & left me to post the letter after writing this afternoon.

Mother & Baby went off in the trap at 2.30 to catch the 3.10 train.  Baby was very jolly she seemed to understand she was going, when we told her she was going in puff-puff she always said “mama”.  I think she wanted to make quite sure that she would have Mother to take care of her.  I helped Mother do most of her packing last night.  It seems funny without her already & she has only been gone two hours, we shall be a ridiculous little party.  Father has given Mother leave to stay till June 10th, she quite hopes to go & see you.

Cyril has not been quite well the last day or two, he is better now except for his eyes which are very weak & swollen, he has to wear a shade over the worst one & today I have to give him lessons without reading or writing, it gets rather puzzling to know what to give him after a bit.

The bells have been ringing merrily this afternoon, it is nice & fine now but early this morning it poured steadily.

I hope the flowers arrived in good condition today, a few of them were from the Woods.

Miss MacDonald, Jack, Mother & I did all the Whitsunday decorations, I did the vases with red tulips & narcissi, I am afraid they were not very much like Mrs Keen’s.

I wrote to Emily at the beginning of the term, I told her I did not expect an answer as I know she is busy, will you let me know when her exam is to be when you hear & then I will write her again before that & ask her when it is over to write & let me know if she can come or not.  Poor Emily, her hair must be in her way.

I hope you were able to have the tournament on Monday, you are not very lucky in your partners.

I want to know whether you & Ethel would like to join with me in giving Evie some little wedding present.  Let me know next week, but as I expect you will like to I think I shall get something either tomorrow or next day & then if you don’t like it I can give it, of course I shall not spend very much.  I might get some nice photo frames or something like that.

I do hope Ethel will be top this week.  I want to know whether Wenna has seen much of Miss White, I feel quite angry with Mabel E though why it is beyond me to say.

With much love to Ethel & yourself
from your loving sister

May E Sladden
