Private David Grinnell (1890-1965) was born in Canning Town, London, the son of Elijah Grinnell and his wife, Lucy (née Watkins); his parents hailed from Evesham and Badsey respectively but had gone to London for work. The family was back in Worcestershire by the time of the 1901 census, living on Broadway Road, Wickhamford (now 2 Longdon Hill). In 1911 they lived at Wickhamford Lodge, Bengeworth; David worked as a wood worker in saw mills.
David enlisted in the 1/8th Worcestershire Regiment (Nos 40918 & 241323) on 6th April 1915. He was recorded as wounded in The Times casualty list of 31st August 1916 and was discharged on 9th April 1919. He received the Victory and British War medals. David’s older brother, Samuel Grinnell, also served in the war.
David married Beatrice E Cole in 1918. He died in Evesham.
