VICAR OF BADSEY BEREAVED – DEATH OF MR W B J ALLSEBROOK

Deep sympathy will be extended to Canon W C Allsebrook (Vicar of Badsey and Rural Dean of Evesham) in the death of his only son, Mr William Basil James Allsebrook, who died at Badsey Vicarage on Tuesday.

Mr Allsebrook, who was 24 years of age and a native of Badsey, had never experienced good health, and had been seriously ill for six months before his death.

He entered the University of London some three years ago and joined the Institute of Historical Research, specialising in Byzantine history.  A brilliant Latin scholar and possessing a wide knowledge of Greek, he took his MA degree about 12 months ago.

Besides his father, he is survived by a sister.

A few months before he died, Mr Allsebrook became a member of the Catholic Church, and the funeral, which took place today (Friday), was conducted by the Catholic priest (the Rev Fr A J Proudman).  The body was received in St Mary’s Church on Thursday night and rested before the altar until Requiem Mass yesterday morning.  The singing at the Requiem Mass was led by a party of children of St Mary’s Church, under the headmistress, Miss M Burns.  Miss Elsie Court was at the organ.

The family mourners were Canon W C Allsebrook (father), Major H & Mrs Allsebrook (uncle and aunt).

Among others present were:  Mr & Mrs C Montresor, Mr H Tolkein, Mr & Mrs T Stanley, Mrs J Thompson, Miss M Walton, Miss M T and Miss V Leather, Mr & Mrs H T Horsfield, Mrs A White, Mr A Harrell, Mrs A E Stephens, Mr W E Farmer, Mrs S A HUTCHSION, Miss Ke Reynonlds, Mrs P Sanger, Mrs C A Clarke, Mrs M Slatter, Mrs C M Boulton, Mrs R Byrd, Mrs J B Hughes, Mrs  H Arkell, Mrs R W Woodwards, Mrs M A Penson, Mrs L M Sill, Mr G E Hinks, Mr F C Emery, Mr F Baylis and Mrs Claridge.

The interment was made in Badsey Churchyard on Friday afternoon.

BADSEY VICAR’S BEREAVEMENT – Death of Mr W B Allsebrook

Mr William Basil James Allsebrook, the only son of Canon W C Allsebrook, Vicar of Badsey and Rural Dean, died at the Vicarage, Badsey, on Wednesday.  Mr Allsebrook was only wr years of age and had recently taken his MA degree.  He was a non-collegiate and had specialised in history.  Bside his father, a sister survives him.

Mr Allsebrook, who was a Catholic, was taken into St Mary’s Church, Evesham, on Thursday, where a reception service was conducted by the Rev A J Proudman.  During the night the coffin was guarded by members of the Catholic Men’s Society.

Four parishioners of Badsey were the bearers, Messrs G Knight, J Knight, J Hartwell and C Roberts.

The numerous floral tributes included a wreath from the Badsey Nursing Association.
