St James’ Church, Badsey, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday between Miss Gladys Mary (Molly) Collett, adopted daughter of Mrs Emma Collett of 20 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, and Mr Geoffrey Mansell Thomas Takell, only son of Mr & Mrs G Takell of Roseleigh, 11 Tanytrait Avenue, Bridgend, South Wales.

The service was performed by the Vicar, Rev J G Jeffreys, and Mrs J G Jeffreys presided at the organ.  The hymns, “Thine for ever, God of Love” and “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us” were sung, and as the couple were leaving the church Mrs Jeffreys played the Wedding March.

The bride, who was given away by Mr Charles Baker, Badsey, her brother-in-law, was charmingly attired in a light brown herringbone tweed costume, with accessories to match, and wore a spray of bronze chrysanthemums, and she carried an ivory coloured prayer book, the gift of friends.  Mr D Delanay, uncle of the bridegroom, was best man.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Royal Oak Assembly Rooms, Badsey, where 40 guests were entertained.  They were the recipients of numerous useful and handsome presents, which included a cheque from the staff of the Franco-British Sign Company, Hendon, London, where the bridegroom is employed.  The honeymoon is being spent at Weston-super-Mare, the bride travelling in a tweed costume with matching accessories.  Their future home will be at Edgware, Middlesex.  Owing to illness, the bride’s mother was unable to attend the ceremony.

Immediately after the ceremony, the bride was presented with three silver horseshoes at the church door by Miss Velma Baker, Miss Carol Baker and Miss Jane Collett, her nieces.  During the afternoon and evening the bells of St James’ Church were rung by the local ringers.

The bride served for five years in the ATS reaching the rank of sergeant, being instructor in a clerical school.  Previous to her service in the Forces, she was employed for six years by the Bredon Package Company, Evesham.  She was educated at Badsey Council School.  The bridegroom served in the Royal Navy for 6½ years taking part in all theatres of war.  He was educated at Bridgend Secondary School, Glamorgan.
