Miss N M Padfield – Mr G H Smith
Four bridesmaids attended the bride at the wedding at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday of Miss Nettie Marjorie Padfield, only daughter of Mr & Mrs F Padfield of 32 Horsebridge Avenue, Badsey, and Mr Ronald George Henry Smith, eldest son of Mr & Mrs J H Smith of Bevington Waste, Salford Priors.
The bride, a native of Badsey, was educated at Blackminster Secondary Modern School and for a number of years has been employed by Messrs Willmotts Ltd, Evesham,from whom she received a cheque. The bridegroom, who is a keen sportsman, is a member of Salfor Priors Cricket Club and plays darts for The Queen’s Head. He is employed by Messrs E R Bomford of Salford Priors.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a white satin dress with a net overskirt. Her veil was held in place by a floral headdress and she carried a bouquet of red roses and trailing fern.
The bridesmaids were Miss Valerie Smith, the bride’s cousin, and the Misses June, Jennifer and Sheila Smith, all sisters of the bridegroom.
The two elder bridesmaids, Valerie and June, wore pink dresses with floral headdresses and they carried bouquets of sweet peas. The younger bridesmaids, Jennifer and Sheila, carried baskets of mixed sweet peas and wore blue dresses.
Best man was the bride’s brother, Mr Trevor Padfield.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of Badsey, the Rev W B Chapman, and included the hymn, “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” with Mrs G H Marshall at the organ. A reception was held at The Royal Oak Assembly Room, Badsey, where 80 guests were entertained. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold locket and to the bridesmaids he gave necklaces and bangles. Future home of Mr & Mrs Smith will be at Salford Priors.
