NORLEDGE – ROOKER

The wedding took place at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Saturday, of Miss Betty Rooker of Bretforton Road, Badsey, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs W Rooker of Alphamstone near Burns, and Mr Gerald Frank Norledge, youngest son of Mr & Mrs H Norledge, Badsey Lane, Evesham.

The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr G Addis, wore a satin dress with lace overskirt and her full-length veil was held in place by a headdress of orange blossom.  She carried a bouquet of red carnations with trailing fern.  She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Iris Shelton (friend), whose dress was of gold moire, and Miss Ann Rooker (sister), who wore a blue moire dress.  Both wore headdresses of lily of the valley and carried bouquets of roses.  The best man was Mr B Norledge (brother of the bridegroom).

The service was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev W B Chapman, and Mrs G Marshall was at the organ.  The hymns were “Lead us, Heavenly Father” and “Love Divine”.  Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was played as the couple left the church.  At the door the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe, heather and a wooden sppon by her cousin and two small nephews.

The reception, which was held at the Wheatsheaf Assembly Room, was attended by 60 guests, and Mr & Mrs Norledge later left for their honeymoon which is being spent at Aberystwyth.  The bride travelled in a silver grey slate-coloured coat with navy accessories.  The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a treble string of pearls, while to the bridesmaids he gave pearl necklaces.  The bride’s present to the groom was an electric razor.

The bride was educated at Badsey Council School and Badsey Senior School, and is now on the staff of W J Craven Ltd from whom she received an electric table lamp.  The bridegroom was educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar School.  He served during the last war for four years in the Royal Artillery, attaining the rank of bombardier.  During that period he saw service in Greece, Tripoli and Egypt.  Since his demobilisation, he has been on the staff of Littleton & Badsey Growers Ltd.
