My dearest Wife,
I was glad to have your letter just before leaving home. You will I expect see Jack to-day and he will tell you of our meeting, prior to that I had two hours at the Academy and just got round the rooms but of course had to do it rather hurriedly, however I think I saw a good deal in the time. “Ben Hur” is wonderfully staged but is scarcely the sort of play that appeals much to me and I think probably I should have preferred “Ulysses”.
I got down here just before noon yesterday, after dinner I hired a bicycle and Frank & I rode through Eastry, Northbourne, and Mongeham and home to tea, after which I rode to Ash and called upon the Gardners and Aunt Susan. This morning it is again fine so I have put on thinner underclothing as I found the others too warm yesterday, I am writing this before going to Church, after dinner I think I shall just ride over again and see Aunt Susan and then Frank and I will go over to Rosway to tea.
To-morrow if fine I think we shall ride over to Ramsgate and Margate in the morning and in the afternoon to Deal and Walmer and I can go on from there to Folkestone about 6 P.M. I have hired a very decent bicycle for the three days for 5/- which is really cheaper than bringing my own, and far less trouble.
I hope you enjoyed your few days in London, give my love to Polly, Mary and Anna, I am afraid I cannot manage to see them this time. Shall you go for a night this week to Egham or wait till you get to Weybridge.
I could not find room for my dinner suit and have told May to apply to you for instructions as to whether it is to be sent to Weybridge, if so the dress bands ought also to go I think.
Now I must send a few lines to Badsey so with much love remain ever
