My Dearest Wife,
I was glad to receive your letter of Monday the same evening, and shortly after I arrived here, now I must write before post as you will be expecting to hear from me again.
Taking up my narrative from my last letter, I went to St Peter’s Church in the morning with Frank and Edith, then immediately after dinner cycled over to see Aunt Susan again and made a short call at Goss-Hall on my way back, about 4 P.M. Frank and I started off for Rosway where we had tea and stopped with uncle while Aunt went to Church, he seems fairly well though feeble and he walked round the garden with us, we rode back before dark. After breakfast on Monday Frank & I cycled to Margate and Ramsgate reaching home for dinner after which I cycled to Walmer leaving Frank to bring my luggage to Deal, meet me at Rosway and take the cycle back, upon which I had done during the three days over 60 miles.
Mrs Wood was out but I saw Fanny Hayward and shall see Charlotte here on Thursday. I am writing this in Grannie’s sitting room, she is quite comfortable though much failed, she sends her love to you and Polly and would much like to see the latter if she can come to Folkestone. Tell Polly I shall much value her kind gift of books and hope she will give the “old gentleman in his arm chair” an opportunity of reading something to her out of them.
This afternoon John, Charlotte, Norah and I have been to Saltwood Gardens and very lovely they are just now, the day too was fine and pleasant.
I heard from May to-day and must write again to Badsey to-morrow and send on the letters when I suppose the Bancroft ones will have come to hand, they seem getting on well, I am glad Mrs Tovey will arrange the ping-pong.
Have you told Fanny I hope to join you on Saturday at Westgate, let her know in case I do not find time to write. I suppose Mary is now away.
My love to Polly and Anna and with much to yourself dear
I remain
Your affectionate Husband
Julius Sladden
