My dearest Husband,

Many thanks for your letter received this morning, I was glad to have good news of you all.  My cold instead of getting better seems to be worse, I was quite poorly with it yesterday & Fanny & Charlie have insisted on sending for their doctor to see me, I think it is partly stomach, so perhaps a proper dosing may do me good, at any rate, Fanny means to do her best to send me home all right, & I am thankful I did not feel as poorly while I was alone in France.

If you can manage to do without me till next Wednesday I should like to stop till then, as Hallé is giving a concert here on Tuesday & Fanny would take me if I am all right again as I hope to be.

When out with Fanny the other day I saw some nice flannel shirts in a good shop, only 5/6 each; shall I get you a couple, you will want some for the winter, if you would like me to get them, send me the size of the neck-band.  Charlie has gone out shooting today, they have had a lot of pheasants, one day at Effingham they got 300.  Evelyn has gone to Brighton today to stay at her old school for a few days, she seems a nice amiable girl.  I sent a post-card to Mrs Burrows to ask Mrs Scott’s address & mean to try & call on her if possible.

Fanny is going to drive over to Richmond this afternoon, to see how they are getting on there, she does not go into the house yet, I fancy Polly & Essie will be going down to Deal soon.

Have you heard anything from Ash?  I must write to Charlotte.

Give my love to all the dear chicks & with much to yourself, dear

I remain
Your loving wife
Eugénie N Sladden
