Badsey & Aldington Trail - Location 8

Badsey Undergrounds

The area between the B4035 Evesham to Chipping Campden road and Badsey Lane is known as Badsey Undergrounds (or Under Badsey).  Its eastern boundary is Badsey Brook, and its western boundary is that between the parishes of Bengeworth and Aldington. Historically it was used for market gardening right up to the end of the 20th century.

This plan, taken from an auction sale notice of 1930, clearly indicates the division of market garden land into narrow strips. Badsey Undergrounds comprised Lots 26 to 30 inclusive. In 1930 the 25 strips, with a total area of about 42 acres, were occupied by 18 different tenants. (With thanks to Terry Sparrow.)
