BADSEY WEDDING

The marriage took place on Saturday of Miss Dorothy Porter, youngest daughter of Mr & Mrs Edward J Porter of Tower View, Bretforton Road, and Mr Albert Arthur M G Merrett, eldest son of Mr & Mrs A Merrett of 47 Windsor Road, Evesham.  The ceremony was performed by the Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook).  The bride, who was given away by Mr H Thornton, her uncle, owing to the indisposition of her father, was charmingly attired in an ankle-length dress of pale blue satin and a wreath of orange blossom and pale blue veil.  She also wore blue shoes to tone and a gold necklet (the gift of the bridegroom).  Her bouquet comprised pink carnations, white heather and maiden hair fern.  She was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Violet Merrett (the bridegroom’[s sister), Miss Violet Spencer (a friend) and Miss Ruby Merrett (the bridegroom’s sister).  Miss Violet Merrett and Miss Spencer looked charming in ankle-length dresses of floral pink ninon voile with headdresses of pearls and rosebuds to tone, while they also wore silver shoes and silver grey stockings.  They carried bouquets of multi-coloured carnations and maiden hair fern and they wore gold crystal necklets (gifts of the bridegroom).  Miss Ruby Merrett was dressed in an ankle-length dress of pink georgette with pink crinoline bonnet and silver shoes and white socks.  She carried a posy of mixed carnations and maiden hair fern and wore a gold crystal necklet (the gift of the bridegroom).  The best man was Mr Arthur Merrett, brother of the groom.  As the happy couple were leaving the church, the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe covered with blue ribbon by Miss Ruby Merrett (the bridegroom’s sister.  The bride is a native of Badsey and has a large circle of friends.  The bridegroom, who was born in London, has resided in Evesham during the past 12 years, during which time he has made a large number of friends.  For some time he has been a member of the Unitarian Table Tennis Club.  After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, but it was of a quiet nature owing to the illness of the bride’s father.  Mr & Mrs Merrett were the recipients of numerous useful and handsome presents from relatives and friends.  They will make their future temporary home at Tower View, Bretforton Road, Badsey.
