My Dearest Eugénie,
I have just received Mrs Lake’s letter and am glad to hear you are still gaining strength, although it would appear rather slowly, however I hope in a few days you will feel considerably stronger. Jack seems quite at home now and is such a good boy, he went into the school-room yesterday morning and had some lessons, Miss Deverin seemed pleased with him, he has begun by learning the French alphabet. Polly sends her love and says she will write to you to-morrow as I am writing to-day. I propose to go down to-day to Ash leaving Charing Cross at noon, I will write to you from there to-morrow by the first post so that you may expect to hear on Saturday. I called on Dr Parmley yesterday but he was out so I left my card. I told Peckover to send any things direct to Evesham as I shall scarcely want them; he seems to have cut the coat very well. So Baby weighs 7lbs he is quite a fair sized child, I hope he gives you good nights. I suppose the little girls enjoyed having tea at Aldington, give the pets all a good kiss from Papa. Your little Jack sends a good love to you. Now I must close and make a start for town. With fond love believe me ever
