MIDNIGHT BLAZE AT WICKHAMFORD – BUNGALOW GUTTED BY FIRE

A large detached bungalow in Willersey Road, Wickhamford, occupied by Mr & Mrs Hugh Ingram, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday night.  The damage is estimated at approximately £2,500, a number of valuable miniatures, a collection of fine glass and other objet d’art being lost.

Mr & Mrs Ingram were in London at the time and the maid, Miss Evelyn Powell, was on a visit to friends outside the district.

July 1913 – Walter Wilson leaving St Benedict’s Boys’ Home

Mr Walter G Wilson, who came to Badsey last autumn as Head of St Benedict’s, the home for lads which Father Lopes has established at the Manor House, is leaving Badsey for Oxford to complete his preparation for Holy Orders.  Dom Anselm, late of Caldy, will be in charge for the present.  Mr Wilson has proved himself an exceedingly capable Hed and we shall look forward to seeing him back in Badsey for vacations.

SANDYS (17th-19th century) of Wickhamford - Burials in Ombersley

Wickhamford Manor was bought by Samuel Sandys in 1594 and he and his son Edwin are buried, together with their wives, in the grand tombs in the church of St John the Baptist, Wickhamford.  The Sandys family also owned Ombersley Court and descendants of Edwin lived there for many generations.  They owned Wickhamford Manor until it was sold to John Pickup Lord in 1869 but no further Sandys family members were ever buried in Wickhamford.
