BADSEY – A PRETTY WEDDING
In fine weather on Saturday afternoon last a pretty though quiet wedding was seen at St James’ Church. The bride was Miss Beatrice Ellen Jelfs, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Frederick Jelfs of Brewers Road, Badsey, and the bridegroom Mr Arthur William Hancox, the eldest son of Mr & Mrs Hancox of Shottery Road, Stratford-on-Avon.

RUSSELL-MELLING – On January 26th, by licence, Carrie Melling, High Street, Broadway, Worcestershire, to Lewis Russell, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.
LATE MR G W COLE
Aged 63, Mr George William Cole of No 5 Sands Lane, Badsey, died at his home on Thursday week. Second son of the late Mr & Mrs G Cole of Pinvin, he was born at Welford-on-Avon. He married Miss Emma Knight, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs C Knight of Badsey. Throughout his life he was a keen market gardener. He was a member of the Badsey branch NFU. He is survived by his widow.
The Badsey Epidemic – “Little Change" reported by Dr Shennan; MOH says infection has now reached Evesham
Dr E T Shennan, Area Medical Officer of Health, at present engaged in fighting an epidemic of dysentery which has swept through the village of Badsey and into the surrounding area, said on Wednesday:
"There is little change in the situation, though the spread from the Badsey area has probably been checked by the school breaking up for the Easter holiday."
Miss S M Barnard & Mr S Goldstraw
At St James' Church, Badsey, the wedding took place on Tuesday of Miss Susan Mary Barnard, only daughter of Mr & Mrs John Barnard of Packs House, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Mr Stanley Goldstraw, third son of Mrs and the late Mr A Goldstraw of Gloucester Edge, Honeybourne.
The Rev Peter Braby, Vicar of Badsey with Wickhamford, officiated. Mrs G W Marshall was at the organ for the hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” and “Praise my soul, the King of Heaven”.
WEDDING OF MISS PAT BARNARD
At Evesham Register Office on Saturday, Miss Elizabeth Patricia Barnard, only daughter of Mr & Mrs F J Barnard of Chestnut Corner, Lanket Lane, Badsey, was married to Mr Frank Goldstraw, youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr A Goldstraw at Honeybourne. After the official ceremony at the Register Office, a service of blessing was held at St James’ Church, Badsey, at which the Vicar, the Rev W B Chapman, officiated, with Mrs G W Marshall at the organ.
BADSEY WEDDING
Miss Olga Pamela Wheatley, youngest daughter of Mr & Mrs A J Wheatley of Knowle Hill, Evesham, and Mr Michael John Barnard, eldest son of Mr & Mrs J Banrard of Packs House, Bretforton Road, Badsey, were married at St James’ Church, Badsey, on Wednesday. Full report in our next issue.

St James’ Church, Badsey, was filled to capacity on Saturday for the wedding of Miss Joyce Margaret Malins, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs G Malins of 22 Synehurst, Badsey, and Mr Maurice Hay, youngest son of Mr & Mrs J Hay of Main Street, Bretforton.
Tne bride, who is very popular in Badsey, was educated at Badsey Council School and was a member of the Women's Land Army for two years. She was afterwards on the office staff at Woolworths, Evesham.
BABY KILLED IN LORRY MISHAP
A 21-month-old girl was fatally injured when in collision with a lorry at market garden land, known as Over the Line land, Bretforton, late yesterday.
She was Rosemary Hay, daughter of Mr & Mrs Maurice Hay, 36 Horsebridge Avenue, Badsey. It is understood that the baby was playing near the lorry which was loading produce and that the child’s parents were onion pulling and ting in the vicinity. The father is a market gardener.
BADSEY MARKET GARDENER – Death of Mr W F Nightingale
The death of Mr William Francis Nightingale of 21 Synehurst, Badsey, took place at his home early on Saturday morning. Mr Nightingale, who was 52 years of age, was the eldest son of the late Mr & Mrs Frank Nightingale of Badsey.
