The Committee recommended acceding to the request of the Badsey Parish Council for sanction to erect a drinking trough on the site of the old village pump, and to allow a water service to the fountain provided that the Council appointed someone to see that the water was not wasted.
On Thursday 2nd June 1977, Badsey celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II. A Jubilee Queen and her attendant rode in state round the village, houses were gaily decorated, a flag was place at the top of the Wellingtonia tree, a pig was roasted, pensioners had a fine meal at the Remembrance Hall, and fun and games were had at the cricket ground.
BADSEY SAPPER KILLED IN FRANCE
Nearly five months after he had enlisted for service with the Royal Engineers, Sapper Denis Hartwell, youngest son of Mr & Mrs J Hartwell, Brewers Lane, Badsey, has been killed accidentally in France. His parents were notified on Wednesday.
Sapper Hartwell, who was 20 years of age, volunteered in October and was called for service in January this year.
TRAGEDY AFTER DANCE – NAVY MAN DROWNED IN SHIP CANAL
Navy Gunner Walter Edmund Warmington, aged 19, whose home is at Badsey, Evesham, fell into the Ship Canal early on Tuesday morning and was drowned. He was returning from a dance in Ellesmere Port with another seaman, who heard him fall into the water, but was unable to locate him owing to the darkness. Warmington’s body was recovered on Tuesday afternoon.
BADSEY SOLDIER’S DEATH
Lance Corporal George Alfred Hall, second son of Mrs A C Hall and the late Mr Hall of No 1 Silk Mills, Badsey, has received fatal injuries while serving with his unit in the West of England.
He had been a member of the Territorial Army for the past five years. He leaves a widow, with whom much sympathy is felt.
The funeral takes place at Badsey today (Friday) at 3.30 pm.

THE LATE MRS G L HALL
The death was reported on Thursday of Mrs Gladys Lilian Hall, daughter of Mr & Mrs George Taylor of 95 Rynal Place, Evesham. Mrs Hall had been in failing health for a number of years and it was because of this that she had given up her work at Willmott’s Ltd, Evesham, where she was a popular employee. Ten years ago she married Mr George Alfred Hall, son of Mrs and the late Mr Maurice Hall of Badsey. Mr Hall was a victim of an air raid in September 1940.
At 11 am on Friday 8th May 2020, the sound of a lone bugler playing The Last Post echoed through Badsey, fading away to the two-minute silence. Later that day, many people throughout Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford, came out into their front gardens to remember together the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe during the Second World War.
An interesting ceremony was performed by Mrs. Eyres Monsell at Badsey on Saturday afternoon when the Coronation Memorial – an ornamental drinking fountain – was opened in the presence of a large concourse of spectators. Mrs. Eyres Monsell was supported by her husband, Mr. B.M. Eyres Monsell, M.P., Lord and Lady Lifford, Mr. J. Sladden, the Misses Sladden. Mrs. Rudge, Miss Rudge, Miss E.M Burlingham, Mrs. Ashwin and Miss Holmes.
Brushes, brooms and a historical conscience came out of the closet when three Badsey women decided to smarten up a local landmark.
Captain John Pickup Lord, a Lancastrian by birth, owned vast amounts of land in Badsey, Aldington, Wickhamford, and also Bengeworth. By the time of his death, his land-holdings in Badsey and Aldington amounted to nearly a fifth of the village, whilst in Wickhamford he owned virtually the whole village.
