In 2017, the restaurant called “Walter’s at The Wheatsheaf” opened at The Wheatsheaf Inn, High Street, Badsey, run by Head Chef, Peter Zemla. The alliterative-sounding name has a pleasing ring to it, but who was Walter?

Three Badsey Worthies
How many villages I wonder can boast of having three inhabitants whose combined ages total 273 years? Such is the case at Badsey where a special service was held at the Parish Church recently in commemoration of the 90th birthday of Mr Alfred Sparrow of Brewers Lane.
Among the congregation, I am told, were Mrs Henry Keen (a sister of Mr Sparrow) and Mr William Mustoe, who has the honour of being Badsey’s oldest inhabitant.

The funeral of Mr John Henry Keen of Ivy House, Badsey, took place on Friday afternoon. Mr Keen, who was the eldest son of Mr R Keen and the late Mrs Keen, was well-known and highly respected in the district. A short service and the interment was conducted by the Vicar (Rev W C Allsebrook). Mrs Alice Louisa Keen of 12 Synehurst, Badsey, died at Evesham Hospital on Thursday week, after a fairly long illness. Aged 75, she was the widow of the late Mr William Henry Keen of Badsey, who died 50 years ago.
