LITTLETON MARKET GARDENER’S SUICIDE – Worried about price of Asparagus

An enquiry was held at the Evesham Police Station on Friday evening by the District Coroner (Mr H Basil Harrison) into the circumstances surrounding the death of Edwin Knight (43), a market gardener, of Council Houses, Middle Littleton.

Knight, who had 15 acres of land, had worried about his work and the crops.  The poor prices realised for asparagus recently were said to have caused him considerable worry, as he had five acres of asparagus ready for cutting.

ACCIDENT VICTIMS – Bulletins from Evesham Hospital

Inquiry at Evesham Hospital this morning revealed that Eunice Nora Knight, the 10-year-old daughter of Mr & Mrs I Knight of 5 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, near Evesham, who, with a friend, was knocked down by a motor-car on Saturday, is making good progress.

The girl and her friend, Nancy Joan Merriman (10), daughter of Mr & Mrs W Merriman of 4 Synehurst Crescent, Badsey, were injured when they were knocked down by a car belonging to Mr F H J Lock of School House, Honeybourne.

BRAASCH, Helga (1917-2003) – of Germany, Peru … and Wickhamford

Helga Marie Louise Wilhelmine Braasch was born during the Great War, on 9th July 1917 in Malente-Gremsuhen, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.  She was the daughter of Heinrich Himrich Wilhelm Braasch and his wife, Harriet née Bluhme.  This couple divorced in 1920, in Hamburg, and she then remarried.  Her second husband was George Hans Louis Petersen.   This couple lived in Peru and the British Overseas Consular records show that Helga Braasch married Ernest R Davis there during the period 1936-1940 (no precise date is given in the records).
